U.S. Open Championship Rounds Sold Out

Limited ticket options remain for all three practice-round days at Merion Golf Club

The United States Golf Association (USGA) today announced that all championship-round tickets for Thursday through Sunday, June 13-16, for the 2013 U.S. Open Championship at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa., have sold out. Limited practice-round tickets for Monday through Wednesday, June 10-12, are still available but are expected to sell quickly.

“Getting closer to a complete sellout for the 2013 U.S. Open reflects the amount of interest that the golf audience has in watching the best players in the world compete in golf’s toughest test,” said Thomas J. O’Toole Jr., USGA vice president and chairman of the Championship Committee. “The USGA appreciates the support thus far in the U.S. Open at historic Merion Golf Club and we are excited about the great atmosphere that a sellout creates.”

Remaining for sale are daily Trophy Club and 1895 Club tickets for each practice-round day and Grounds tickets for the Monday and Tuesday practice rounds. Prices of available daily practice-round tickets start at $50 for Grounds tickets and range up to $250 for 1895 Club practice-round tickets.

Cameras are permitted on the practice-round days, Monday through Wednesday, which provides the opportunity to take photos as the players prepare for the National Open Championship.

Each buyer is permitted to purchase up to four tickets for each day. All tickets include complimentary general parking at PPL Park (BLUE Lot) in Chester, Pa., or Rose Tree Park (RED Lot) in Media, Pa., and shuttle transportation to and from the championship entrance. The shuttles will begin running at 5:30 a.m. each day of the championship and run continuously until the conclusion of play.

Spectators are also encouraged to take SEPTA for convenient access to and from the championship. Spectators have the option of taking the Paoli/Thorndale Regional Rail Line to Rosemont Station, where complimentary shuttles will transport them to and from the championship entrance, or they may utilize the Norristown High Speed Line to Ardmore Avenue Station, which is within walking distance of the championship entrance.   

Junior tickets will be available on-site at Will Call and at all admission gates during the championship. Juniors, age 12 and younger, will be admitted free of charge any day, when accompanied by an adult ticket holder. Tickets for juniors, age 13 to 17, will be available for purchase at a reduced rate of $15 for practice rounds and $35 for championship rounds. There is a maximum of two junior tickets per one adult ticket holder. Junior tickets permit Trophy Club access only when accompanied by an adult Trophy Club ticket holder. Junior tickets do not permit 1895 Club access, but 1895 Club tickets can be purchased for juniors on-site for any day of the championship.

The 2013 U.S. Open will be the fifth contested at Merion, and the first since 1981, when David Graham of Australia won by three strokes over George Burns and Bill Rogers. Merion also was the site of Ben Hogan’s historic 1950 U.S. Open triumph when he returned following a near-fatal automobile accident in 1949. Hogan’s 1-iron approach shot to the 72nd hole remains one of the Open’s iconic moments. He would win the title the following day in an 18-hole playoff over Lloyd Mangrum and George Fazio.

Olin Dutra claimed the first U.S. Open at Merion in 1934, while Lee Trevino defeated Jack Nicklaus in a playoff to win the 1971 Open. Merion is also where Bob Jones completed his “Grand Slam” in 1930 by capturing the U.S. Amateur.

In all, Merion has hosted 17 USGA championships, more than any club in the U.S.
