Thomas I. Barkin

Thomas I. Barkin, of Atlanta, Ga., is in his sixth year as a member of the USGA Executive Committee.

Barkin is the president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. He joined the Richmond Fed in January 2018. In this role, he is responsible for the Bank’s monetary policy, bank supervision and regulation, and payment services, as well as oversight of the Federal Reserve System’s information technology organization. 

Prior to joining the Richmond Fed, Barkin was a senior partner and chief financial officer at McKinsey & Company, a worldwide management consulting firm. Barkin oversaw McKinsey’s offices in the southern United States and provided strategic counsel to a diverse portfolio of clients. 

Barkin is a member of the Emory University Board of Trustees and the Board of the Community Foundation of Greater Richmond. 

Barkin earned his bachelor’s, MBA and law degrees from Harvard University. A lifelong avid golfer and current member of Kinloch Golf Club in Richmond, he continues to try to play as well as he did when he won his junior club championship at age 16 in Tampa, Fla., and enjoys playing the game both in the United States and abroad.

In 2022, Barkin will chair the Finance committee and serve on the Compensation & Leadership Development, Governance and Nominating committees.
