Erica Blasberg Dies At 25

Daytona Beach, Fla. – Erica Blasberg, 25, a professional who was a member of the 2004 USA Curtis Cup team, has died from undisclosed causes, it was announced Monday by the Ladies Professional Golf Association communications department.

Blasberg, a native of Southern California, was in her sixth season on the LPGA Tour. She was a frequent and successful competitor in USGA championships, finishing as a quarterfinalist in the 2000 U.S. Girls’ Junior and 2003 U.S. Women’s Amateur. She reached the third round of match play in the Women’s Amateur in 1999 and 2002. In 2000, she was the stroke-play medalist at the U.S. Girls’ Junior.

When the 2004 USA Curtis Cup team defeated Great Britain & Ireland at Formby G.C. in Merseyside, England, in 2004, Blasberg won her lone singles encounter to a contribute a point to the 10-to-8 USA victory, although she lost her only foursomes match.

A former junior golf standout, she was the 2003 NCAA Freshman of the Year while at the University of Arizona and 2003 Pac-10 Player of the Year. She was an All-American in 2003-04.

She turned professional after the 2004 Curtis Cup matches and won one event on the Duramed FUTURES Tour before earning her LPGA players’ card in 2005. Her best year as a professional was in 2008 when she won more than $113,000. In 2007, she tied for 39th in the U.S. Women’s Open.

This season, Blasberg had played in only one event, the Tres Marias Championship, where she tied for 44th.
