USGA Renews Corporate Partnership With American Express

Far Hills, N.J. (Feb. 15) –The United States Golf Association announced today it has renewed its corporate partnership with American Express, which in 2006 became the first such partner in the USGA’s history.

“American Express has been a very supportive corporate partner for the USGA and we are thrilled that our partnership will continue,” said USGA President Jim Hyler. “Particularly during the last few years, when the economy has made marketing more of a challenge, American Express has been extremely supportive of the USGA and its programs.”

American Express has supported the USGA in a variety of ways since the inception of the partnership. The relationship has been most visible at the U.S. Open, where the American Express Championship Experience has introduced more than 150,000 visitors to Association activities, such as the Green Section, Museum, and Research and Test Center. American Express has also provided its Cardmembers with special access to U.S. Open tickets and sponsored several digital programs, including the course section of USOPEN.com, the official Web site of the U.S. Open.

In addition to its involvement at USGA championships, American Express also helped enroll USGA Members through the “gift of golf” program, and was the presenting sponsor of the Association’s recent Member Education Series event in Pinehurst, N.C.

“We couldn’t have done these sorts of programs without the support of American Express,” said Hyler. “We look forward to working together to bring new and exciting programs to American Express Cardmembers and USGA Members.”

The cornerstones in the second multi-year agreement mirror the partnership’s founding principles. This relationship enables American Express to continue to provide enhanced on-site experiences at the U.S. Open and develop programs with the USGA that will improve Cardmembers’ knowledge and passion for the game. USGA will also be able to broaden its communication with passionate golfers.
