Far Hills, N.J.– Wade Hampton Golf Club in Cashiers, N.C., has been selected by the United States Golf Association as the site of the 2013 USGA Senior Amateur Championship. The dates of the championship are Sept. 21-26.

Named for Wade Hampton III, a late governor of South Carolina who was also a U.S. senator and a member of President Grover Cleveland’s Cabinet, the golf course was designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 1987. Wade Hampton Golf Club is located 65 miles southwest of Asheville, N.C., among the Blue Ridge Mountains at an elevation of 3,650 feet. It will be hosting its first USGA championship.

“We at Wade Hampton are extremely pleased to be selected to host the 2013 USGA Senior Amateur,” said Litt Glover, president of Wade Hampton. “We have a small membership of avid golfers who are delighted to have the opportunity to contribute something to the game of golf. All of us look forward to the championship with great excitement.”

The USGA Senior Amateur, which was first conducted in 1955, is a national championship for male golfers 55 years of age and older who hold USGA Handicap Indexes of not higher than 7.4.

Prior to 2013, the USGA Senior Amateur will be played at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club in Orlando, Fla., from Oct. 2-7, 2010; at Kinloch Golf Club in Manakin-Sabot, Va., from Sept. 10-15, 2011; and at Mountain Ridge Country Club in West Caldwell, N.J., from Sept. 29-Oct. 4, 2012.
