Far Hills, N.J. (Feb. 5, 2011) – The Rules of Golf and Decisions on the Rules of Golf are now available in Spanish for the first time on the website of the United States Golf Association (www.usga.org).
The project, a joint effort of the USGA Rules and Competitions staff and the Comité Nacional de Reglas of the Federación Mexicana de Golf, culminates an 18-month translation process spearheaded by José Manuel Gómez, the director of Rules for Asociación de Golf del Sur in Mexico.
“We are very pleased to provide this much-needed service to our Spanish-speaking players,” said Jim Hyler, president of the USGA. “It marks another outstanding collaborative effort by our associations, which have a long-standing tradition of cooperation on behalf of the golfers of both countries.”
“This is wonderful news for us,” said Fernando Ysita, president of the Federación Mexicana de Golf. “I feel very enthusiastic about the work that has been done by our Comité Nacional de Reglas in partnership with the USGA.”
Glen D. Nager, chairman of the USGA’s Rules of Golf Committee, said, “We are very pleased that the FMG has made these two translations available for the USGA website so Spanish-speaking golfers throughout the USGA’s Rules jurisdiction of Mexico and the United States can access the Rules of Golf and the Decisions on the Rules of Golf in their native language.”
The 214-page Las Reglas de Golf and the 700-page Las Decisiones Sobre las Reglas de Golf are both available in the pdf document format by selecting the Rules tab on the usga.org home page and selecting either “Rules Book in Spanish” or “Decisions Book in Spanish” from the resulting dropdown menu.
