Adam Ball, 17, of Richmond, Va.Advanced to the quarterfinals with a 2-up victory over Juan Yumar … playing in his third Junior Amateur … missed the cut in 2009 and lost in the second round in 2010 … also played in the 2010 U.S. Amateur … shot 11 under to win the 2009 VSGA State Junior, becoming the youngest champion in history … also won the 2011 VSGA State Match Play …  was the 2010 Virginia State Golf Association Co-Junior Golfer of the Year … also a high school prep league and high school state player of the year … has a career-low round of 63, shot at The Federal Club in Glen Allen, Va., in May, 2011 … has three career holes-in-one, all shot at Meadowbrook Country Club  … aced #17 at age 11, No. 13 at age 15, and No. 9 at age 17 … will be a junior at St. Christopher’s … son of Matt and Kimberly … has father is the head golf coach at Virginia Commonwealth University … has one brother, Matthew … birth date: June 1, 1994.

Chelso Barrett, 16, of Keene, N.H. 

Advanced to the quarterfinals with a 2-and-1 victory over William Zalatoris … defeated defending champion Jim Liu in the second round … also played in the 2010 Junior Amateur (where he lost to Jordan Spieth in the first round) and the 2010 U.S. Amateur Public Links … won the 2010 New Hampshire State Junior Championship … won the 2011 New England Junior PGA Championship … has a career-low round of 64, shot at Bretwood Golf Course, South … will be a junior at Keene High School … son of Hugh and Gina … his father played in the 1981 U.S. Amateur … has one brother, Brett … birth date: Nov. 12, 1994.

Ryan Benton, 17, of Dothan, Ala. 

Advanced to the quarterfinals with a 3-and-2 victory over Hank Lebioda … is playing in his first USGA championship … the 2008, 2009 and 2010 Dothan CC Junior champion … the 2009 AHGSS 1A-2A co-champion … other victories include the 2009 SJGT Meadowlinks, the 2009 Alabama State Junior (14-15 year olds), the 2010 SJGT Southern Junior, the 2010 SJGT Capitol Hill, the 2010 SJGT Rock Creek … runner-up at the 2011 AHSAA 1A-2A … earned 2010 HP Scholastic Honor Roll … a 2010 SJGT Nike Cup Team Member … fifth place at the 2011 Press Thornton Future Masters … has a career-low round of 65, shot at the Dothan Country Club Junior Club Championship in 2009 … has three career holes-in-one, all in 2011 at RTJ Highland Oaks … will be a senior at Providence Christian School … son of Tim and Michelle … has two sisters, Ashley and Emma … birth date: March 18, 1994.

Nicolas Echavarria, 16, of Colombia 

Advanced to the quarterfinals with a 3-and-2 victory over Emilio Maurer … playing in his first USGA championship … runner-up at the 2011 Callaway World Junior … has a career-low round of 65, shot in 2010 … made a hole-in-one in his hometown course in Colombia last year … will be a senior at The Columbus School … son of Emilio Echavarria and Ana Botero … has two brothers, Miguel  and Andres, who played golf at the University of Florida … birth date: August 4, 1994.

Beau Hossler, 16, of Mission Viejo, Calif. Advanced to the quarterfinals with a 5-and-4 victory over Connor Black … shot 68-67 in stroke play to earn medalist honors by four strokes … playing in his first U.S. Junior Amateur … played in the 2011 U.S. Open at Congressional Country Club, where he missed the cut … also played in the 2009 U.S. Amateur … has a career-low round of 66, shot at the Junior World Championship at Riverrock in 2008 … has one career hole-in-one, at Pinehurst #2 in 2007 … won the 2010 AJGA Stockton and the 2010 AJGA Trader Joe’s … runner-up at the 2010 AJGA Emerson … an AJGA Rolex first-team All-American in 2010 … will be a junior at Santa Margarita Catholic High School … son of Beau Hossler Sr. and Amy and Matt Zalsz … has one sister, Danielle … birth date: March 16, 1995.

Jordan Spieth, 17, of Dallas, Texas 

Advanced to the quarterfinals with a 2-and-1 victory over Wilson Bateman … won the 2009 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at Trump National in Bedminster, N.J. … playing in his fourth Junior Amateur …. Also advanced to the semifinals in 2008 and lost in the second round in 2010 … has played three U.S. Amateurs, in 2008, 2009 and 2010 … made the cut at the 2010 and 2011 PGA Tour Byron Nelson Championship … finished tied for 16th in 2010 … won the 2011 AJGA HP Boys Championship and the 2010 Ping Invitational … runner-up at the 2011 Jones Cup at Sea Island (where he lost in a playoff), the 2010 AJGA Junior Players Championship and the 2009 Junior PGA … represented the USA at the 2010 Junior Ryder Cup and went 3-0 to help lead his team to victory … a 2010 AJGA first-team All-American … has a career-low round of 62, shot at the Byron Nelson Junior Championship in 2008 … has one hole-in-one, during a practice round at the 2009 U.S. Amateur … will be a freshman at the University of Texas … son of Shawn and Chris … has one brother, Steven, and one sister, Ellen … birth date: July 27, 1993.

William Starke, 17, of Chapin, S.C. 

Advanced to the quarterfinals with a 3-and-2 victory over Zachary Herr … won the 2011 Southern Cross, the 2011 NJGT College Prep at Rock Barn, and the 2011 Caddie Classic … runner-up at the 2011 Carolinas Junior … the 2011 South Carolina 3A Player of the Year … has a career-low round of 65, shot twice, at Fort Jackson Golf Club in May and at Santee National in June … will be a senior at Chapin High School … has committed to play at the University of South Carolina in the fall of 2012 … son of Tom and Sue … has one brother, Benjamin … birth date: Dec. 20, 1993.

Andrew Whalen, 17, of Ephrata, Wash. 

Advaced to the quarterfinals with a 1-up victory over Taylor Moore … won the 2010 GolfWeek Junior Open at Orange Tree Resort, the 2010 RMJGT Ocotillo Open Chandler and the 2011 NWJRGT Portland  Junior Open … has a career-low round of 67, shot during his Junior Amateur sectional qualifier at Gold Mountain in June … a 2010 and 2011 National Honor Society Member … 2010 AJGA HP Scholastic Honor Roll … the 2009, 2010 and 2011 CWAC Player of the Year … participated in the 2010 John D. Mineck DBC Junior Cup at Boston Golf Club representing the USA Team … will be a junior at Ephrata Senior High School … son of Joe and Patti Whalen … has one brother, Aaron … birth date: April 8, 1994.
