Walker Cup Memories: Tim Herron

Tim Herron, of Wayzata, Minn., competed on the 1993 Walker Cup Team not far from home at Interlachen Country Club in Edina. Herron was part of an American squad that produced the largest margin of victory in Walker Cup history (19-5). Herron, a former All-American at the University of New Mexico, turned professional and registered four PGA Tour victories.

What do you remember about playing the Walker Cup?  

It was a great experience, both as being a part of a team and just competing in it. It was something any amateur player, no matter how old you are, would want to do, but as a young kid it was really a pretty special experience. I played pretty well, which was kind of a bonus.

What was one of the best parts of that experience?

Representing your country is pretty awesome. Also, the trip was paid for. 

It was a home game for the USA and a real home game for you at Interlachen. Did that make it better?

Really, the coolest part was that I played with another hometown guy, John Harris, and we won our [foursomes] match, and you really can't do a whole lot better than that. The fact that the American team won pretty handily wasn't a big deal, but just that we won it. We had a very strong team, a lot of great players.
