The California native’s first professional victory turned out to be a major championship: the 2017 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. The one-stroke win over Brooke Henderson came in her 144th start. Kang has since claimed four more titles, including consecutive victories in Greater Toledo, Ohio, after the circuit restarted following a long hiatus due to COVID-19. She won the LPGA Drive On Championship at historic Inverness Club and then rallied to beat Lydia Ko by a stroke in the Marathon Classic. Before turning professional, Kang registered back-to-back U.S. Women’s Amateur titles in 2010 and 2011. She will be making her 11th start in the U.S. Women’s Open, with her best finish solo fourth in 2018 at Shoal Creek.
