Kim earned a spot in her first U.S. Women’s Open by winning the 2019 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Forest Highlands in Flagstaff, Ariz. She defeated fellow New York City resident Talia Campbell in the championship match. Kim enjoyed a decorated junior/amateur career before taking an 11-year hiatus from the game to devote time to her career in the financial world. She was the runner-up to Lisa Ferrero in the 2000 U.S. Girls’ Junior at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club outside of Portland, Ore. When she met her husband, Ian Schaad, Kim decided to leave the financial world and spend more time playing amateur golf. Her older sister, Hana, is a former professional golfer who qualified for two U.S. Women’s Opens.
