Lee played her way into the 2020 U.S. Women’s Open with a dramatic victory in the year’s first major championship, the ANA Inspiration in September. Lee chipped in from 75 feet for eagle on the 72nd hole to get into a three-way, sudden-death playoff with Nelly Korda and Brooke Henderson. Lee then birdied the first playoff hole, the par-5 18th, to take the title. It was her eighth worldwide victory and fourth on the LPGA Tour. It was Lee’s first victory since the 2017 Kia Classic. In the 2016 Women’s British Open, she opened the championship with a 62, matching the championship’s 18-hole record. This will be Lee’s sixth start in the U.S. Women’s Open. She opened the 2016 championship at CordeValle with a 64 before settling for a share of 11th.
