2020 Championship | Tyler Strafaci, of Davie, Fla., kept the Havemeyer Trophy in the Georgia Tech family by defeating Charlie "Ollie" Osborne, of Reno, Nev., 1 up, in the 36-hole final at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore. A year earlier, Strafaci's Georgia Tech teammate, Andy Ogletree, won the championship. Strafaci joined his late grandfather, Frank Strafaci, as a USGA champion. Frank Strafaci won the 1935 U.S. Amateur Public Links. The 2020 U.S. Amateur was conducted without any pre-championship qualifying due to health concerns from the COVID-19 pandemic. Strafaci's last four matches of the championship all came down to the par-5 closing hole at Bandon Dunes. Read More |
Quotable | "It's crazy. I'm not going to lie; it's stressful. Winning the Am is amazing, but winning four matches in a row on 18, that's something I'm always going to look back on if I'm in a major and I'm even going into the last hole with someone like Brooks Koepka or Tiger or someone like that down the road. I'm going to look back and say I've done this before, I've done it on the biggest stage in amateur golf, I should be ready for this. That's something I'll never forget, winning the last [four] matches 1 up.” -- Tyler Strafaci |
