Ko rose to No. 1 in the Rolex Rankings in 2019 -- and currently sits in that position -- thanks to a pair of major victories. She won the ANA Inspiration by three strokes and capped the major-championship season with a two-stroke win in the Evian Championship. She also won the CP Women’s Open by five strokes. From 2014-17, Ko won 10 times on the LPGA of Korea Tour. When she won the 2017 LPGA KEB Hana Bank Championship, a co-sanctioned event with the LPGA Tour and KLPGA, Ko took up membership on the LPGA Tour for the 2018 season. This will be Ko’s fifth start in the U.S. Women’s Open. In 2020, she shared runner-up honors with Amy Olson, one stroke behind countrywoman A Lim Kim at Champions Golf Club. That finish enabled her to qualify for the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship, which she won by five strokes.
