Scavo will make her third U.S. Women’s Open start after surviving a 2-for-1 playoff with amateur Abigail Leighton for the second and final spot at El Macero (Calif.) Country Club. Scavo posted a 36-hole total of 3-over-par 147 *75-72). Scavo qualified for her first U.S. Women’s Open in 2014 at age 16, but missed the cut at Pinehurst. She also failed to play the weekend last year at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, not far from her hometown of Benicia. Since turning professional in 2019, she has posted a pair of victories on the satellite Cactus Tour, both in 2019. At the University of Oregon, Scavo was a first-team Pacific-12 All-Academic selection in 2019, the same year she tied for 23rd at the NCAA Championships. The two-time AJGA All-American advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2013 U.S. Girls’ Junior, losing to eventual runner-up Lakareber Abe. She also advanced to the Round of 16 of the inaugural U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball in 2015 at Bandon Dunes with partner and fellow Northern Californian Lucy Li, who took home medalist honors at the same site. She twice captured the California Girls’ Junior title. Her brother-in-law is current Oregon men’s golf coach and two-time U.S. Open qualifier Casey Martin.
