Jim Moore

Former Director of Green Section Education and Outreach, USGA

Jim Moore retired from the USGA in July 2016. He was with the Green Section for his entire 33 years on staff. During that time, his positions included regional director, director of the Construction Education Program and director of the Green Section’s Education and Outreach program.

Highlights of Jim’s USGA career include making more than 1,000 consulting visits to golf courses in the United States, Mexico and Germany. He delivered more than 500 educational presentations in 15 countries. Jim is also to have been a long-time member of the USGA Green Section Research Committee, on which he still serves.

Jim served in the United States Air Force for more than six years. His service included two years as a radar bombing and navigation specialist, and four as a missile systems analyst. This technical training, along with a lifelong fascination with technology and computers, gave him insight into the potential benefits of using geospatial analysis to help golf courses measure, predict an utilize more efficiently resources such as water, labor and power.

Jim is married to Kay, who also retired from the USGA after 33 years of service. They have four children, who – like their parents – graduated from Texas A&M University.
