James F. Moore

Director, Green Section Education

Moore is director of the USGA Green Section's Education Program. His duties include the development of a wide range of educational materials including written, Internet and multimedia resources for golf course management and environmental issues. He also presents educational seminars to various golf related groups throughout the country. His goal is the same as that of the Green Section – provide top quality golf course management related information to as many segments of the game and industry of golf as possible.

Prior to assuming his new role as Director of Education, Moore served as director of the USGA’s Construction Education program for 14 years where he worked closely with golf course architects, builders, and physical soil testing laboratories to refine construction practices and standards. During this time he developed a wide variety of materials to help golf course superintendents and course officials complete successful construction and renovation projects. He also served as Director of the Mid-Continent Region of the Green Section for 12 years. During that time, he made more than 1,000 Course Consulting Service visits to courses throughout the Mid-Continent Region. He has spoken extensively throughout the U.S. as well as in other countries and has written many articles for various publications.

Before joining the USGA, Moore was a golf course superintendent for seven years and completed his superintendent career at Ridgewood Country Club in Waco, Texas. During this time he served as President of the Texas Turfgrass Association. He is also a proud veteran of the United States Air Force.

Moore is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a B.S. degree in Agronomy and Turfgrass Management. It was at A&M where he met his wife Kay, who is the office coordinator for the Green Section Education Program.
