Volunteer Committee Descriptions
Admissions & Information Services (100% Full): The Admissions & Information Services Committee is responsible for checking fans for proper tickets or credentials when entering admission gates. Assisting USGA staff with the sale and distribution of tickets via the Will Call office will also be a part of the committee’s function. This committee will also staff information tents that will assist spectators in the enjoyment of the championship as well as their visit to the area.
Corporate Hospitality (100% Full): The committee assists at admission points for hospitality locations, provide information to clients and assists them with business functions as needed in their hospitality villages and areas.
Courtesy Cars (100% Full): Meet players, officials, and designated guests at airport and assist them with the assignment of a courtesy vehicle. If needed, assist automobile dealers’ representatives in staging and numbering of courtesy vehicles. Must be over 25 years of age and have a valid driver’s license.
Course Evacuation (100% Full): The Course Evacuation Committee is responsible for removing players, caddies, and officials from the course during a suspension of play due to severe weather. After each suspension, the committee will shuttle these groups back to their previous locations. Must be over 25 years of age and have a valid driver’s license.
Disability Services (100% Full): The disability services committee assists fans with disabilities by providing special on course transportation to and from the drop off areas and designated grandstand viewing locations. Interested volunteers must be over 25 years of age and have a valid driver’s license.
Fan Safety Ambassadors: Committee volunteers will be strategically assigned to fan gathering areas or marquee group pairings each day, providing consistent friendly reminders to all fans to comply with protocols related to social distancing and wearing of masks. Volunteer will be equipped with a “Fan Safety Ambassador” caddie bib, in addition to a marshal paddle with “Masks Required” legible on one side and “Social Distance” on the reverse.
Golf Carts (100% Full): The Golf Carts Committee will manage the inventory and distribution of golf carts to authorized recipients. Must be over 25 years of age and have a valid driver’s license.
Goodman Club (100% Full): Volunteers in the Goodman Club provide friendly and helpful services and information to Goodman Club credential holders. This committee will staff the entrance to welcome guests, and to assist in checking for proper tickets or credentials.
Leaderboards (100% Full): Update on-course leaderboards and thru boards with scores of the players in the championship. May require the ability to climb ladders and operate from elevated platforms. This committee operates on a limited basis during practice rounds to assist fans with identifying and locating players.
Marshals (100% Full): The Marshals Committee is responsible for maintaining fair playing conditions for the players by controlling fans and spotting golf balls that go astray. Marshals will also monitor the entrances and exits to the grandstands and assist fans seated in those areas on their respective hole. Will be required to walk to assigned hole and stand for entire shift.
Merchandise: The Merchandise Committee will be responsible for management of all aspects of the Merchandise Pavilion operation in support of the USGA staff and vendors. The committee members will provide retail assistance in the Merchandise Pavilion including but not limited to baggers, cashiers, customer service representatives, stockers, greeters and entrance and exit monitors.
On-Course Distribution (100% Full): The On-Course Distribution Committee will be responsible for delivering printed materials, drinking water and supplies to various facilities throughout the championship grounds. May be required to lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds). Must be over 25 years of age and have a valid driver’s license.
Practice Areas (100% Full): The Practice Areas Committee will oversee the management of the practice range, short game area and putting green areas. Volunteers will assist players in getting practice balls, placing name placards behind each player for fan viewing, and general cleanliness of all practice areas.
Standard Bearers (Ages 14 to 21 ONLY - 100% Full): The Standard Bearers Committee will have junior volunteers carrying an 8 lbs. scoring sign (standard) with each group during the championship. The sign displays each player’s score in relation to par. Volunteers will be required to walk all 18 holes. This committee operates during practice rounds to assist fans with identifying and locating players. USE REGISTRATION CODE: 2021youth
Volunteer Services (100% Full): The Volunteer Services Committee is responsible for providing information to volunteers and managing the Volunteer Hospitality area.
Walking Scorers (100% Full): The Walking Scorers Committee provides accurate shot-by-shot and hole-by-hole information for each player and enters scores into a handheld computer terminal. They will also assist with scorecard verification. Additionally, they will work with the standard bearer to make sure the scoring sign (standard) is accurate for each player’s score of their respective group. Ability to navigate 18 holes and follow players on foot is required. Walking scorers will be required to attend mandatory onsite training and participate in a dress rehearsal during practice rounds on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning of championship week. Volunteers will be asked to work shifts for both Round 1 and Round 2 and will be assigned for the weekend shifts based on availability and experience.
